Portraits of a ‘villa miseria’ (shanty town)
In 1973 and 1974 I visited and photographed the shanty towns of Santiago, Chile; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Caracas, Venezuela; Bogota, Colombia and Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. Each time I was told not to go, that it was too dangerous, that I would not get out alive. or if was lucky without my cameras. All I can say is that I met some of the nicest people there.
